ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun crew training simulator

About simulator

ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun multimedia crew training simulator (the ZU-23-2 simulator) is designed to education, train and evaluate the actions of the ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun crew (commander, gunner, sight-setter) in search, detection, identification, aiming, firing at visually observed air and ground targets, in simple and difficult weather conditions, day and night.
The purpose of using the ZU-23-2 simulator is to form and consolidate the skills of coordinated work of crew during combat missions in a classroom environment.
The ZU-23-2 simulator used in conjunction with special combat simulation software.

The simulator includes: interactive simulation model of the commander’s workplace, interactive simulation model of the gunner’s workplace, interactive simulation model of the of sight-setter’s workplace, instructor’s workstation, specialized software.

Interactive simulation model of the commander’s workplace

Interactive simulation model of the commander’s workplace designed to practice and consolidate the skills of an anti-aircraft gun commander in controlling the work of a ZU-23-2 crew members when firing at ground and aviation targets and adjusting fire.

Interactive simulation model of the commander’s workplace consists of:

  • observation device simulator (binoculars simulation model)
  • equipment for modeling the visual environment and acoustic background as part of a spherical screen with projectors and computer equipment to reproduce the terrain, background environment, landmarks and aiming points (aircraft and ground target for shooting, combat operations, sounds of shots, shell explosions, etc.)
  • equipment for communication with the instructor imitating walkie-talkie

Interactive simulation model of the gunner’s workplace

Interactive simulation model of the gunner’s workplace intended for practicing and consolidating the skills of the ZU-23-2 gunner in choosing the aiming point, accurately aiming the anti-aircraft gun at the target and conducting aimed fire.

Interactive simulation model of the gunner’s workplace is a computer-mechanical training device, and it consists of:

  • the real anti-aircraft gun (provided by the customer) with electronic equipment installed on it for monitoring the position of the main working bodies
  • aiming device simulator (optical sight T-3 simulation model)
  • equipment for modeling the visual environment and acoustic background as part of a spherical screen with projectors and computer equipment to reproduce the terrain, background environment, landmarks and aiming points (aircraft and ground target for shooting, combat operations, sounds of shots, shell explosions, etc.)

Interactive simulation model of the of sight-setter’s workplace

Interactive simulation model of the of sight-setter’s workplace intended for practicing and consolidating the skills of the ZU-23-2 sight-setter for fast and accurate entering target data on the sight.

Consists of:

  • the real anti-aircraft gun (provided by the customer) with electronic equipment installed on it for monitoring the position of the main working bodies
  • equipment for modeling the visual environment and acoustic background as part of a spherical screen with projectors and computer equipment to reproduce the terrain, background environment, landmarks and aiming points (aircraft and ground target for shooting, combat operations, sounds of shots, shell explosions, etc.)

Instructor’s workstation

The instructor’s workstation is intended for:

  • creation of a situational and background-target environment in the preparation and implementation of training tasks using various scenarios of the air and ground situation
  • imitation the actions of allied and enemy units and equipment, which are guided by artificial intelligence
  • applying a variety of training conditions, including the choice of territory, type of terrain, time of year and time of day, as well as environmental effects such as rain, snow, wind, fog or smoke
  • monitoring the process of performing tasks with the possibility of dynamically changing the conditions for their implementation and obtaining complete information about the actions of cadets
  • the possibility of interfering in the actions of cadets, in case they make mistakes
  • preparation and control of training tasks, ensuring control of the level of knowledge acquired by cadets by performing test tasks
  • documenting the progress and results of tasks

The instructor’s workstation includes: computer equipment and software, keyboard, mouse type manipulator, monitors (2 pcs.), printer, communication system and audio system.

Specialized software

Specialized software is designed to develop skills in firing at air and ground targets, on different types of terrain, with different weather conditions, and also for preparation and control of training tasks, ensuring control of the level of knowledge acquired by cadets by performing test tasks.

The software includes specialized programs and electronic libraries, which are designed for:

  • modeling the work process of the crew with the ability to reproduce practical actions
  • modeling and reproduction of interactive tasks corresponding to the tasks on combat operations of the anti-aircraft gun ZU-23-2
  • modeling (visualization) of the ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun firing during target tracking and fire for effect, as well as the results of fire impact on the target
  • reproduction of terrain and field of vision of devices, background environment (military engagement, gun shots sounds, shell bursts etc) in a single information environment, their dynamic changes during the tasks
  • integrated 3D simulation of training and combat conditions, close to real with the use of various scenarios of air and ground conditions, simulation of actions of allied and enemy units and equipment controlled by artificial intelligence, application of various training conditions, including choice of territory, terrain, seasons and time of day, as well as environmental effects such as rain, snow, wind, fog or smoke
  • modeling according to the physical laws of ballistics of projectiles and bullets, the action of ammunition on equipment and manpower, the movement of wheeled and tracked vehicles on different types of terrain, taking into account obstacles to approach reality
  • integrations to the highest level training simulation systems with ability for a data transfer of the status and tasks performance, combination of the same type and / or different types of training systems (integrated simulators) in a single information environment
  • ensuring the possibility of interaction of the сomplex with other simulators within a single simulation space of the real-time combat environment using the standard data exchange protocol used in NATO countries – STANAG 4603
  • preparation and control of training tasks
  • checking the level of knowledge acquired by cadets
  • documenting the progress and results of tasks
